A lot has been happening in my life in the past few months. My life has changed completely in very short order, and I will admit to feeling slightly punch drunk and at times quite scared about what is happening. I decided to be a bit self indulgent and research what I need to do in order to move forward, and not feel like I am stuck in the past somewhere. Hopefully, this may help someone else, reading this blog, as well as helping me.
According to my research, there are 10 things you need to do in order to move to greater things without looking back. Number one, is to stop the opinions of others control your life. It is not important what others think of me and my situation. In fact, their opinion of me is none of my business at all. I have to do what is best for me, my family and my life and no one else.
The next thing to give up is the shame of past failures. I think everyone has made goofs in their life, but the successful people are the ones who shake the dust from their feet and get on with life. A very good example of this (and definitely an inspiration to me) is Elaine at http://www.mortgagefreeinthree.com. On the basis that all that matters is what you do right now, Elaine is the embodiment of that phrase. Go and read her blog and her story. She is amazing.
I do know that you must be decisive about what you want. If you are indecisive, or not passionate about what you want, then you are never going to be able to get to where you might want to be. Looking back, I made the decision about having a family and getting into the position my husband and I found myself in quite sometime ago. I have pursued this goal, in one way or another, quite single mindedly for a good few years. Lucky, lucky me. I encourage you to do the same.
We all know that procrastination is the thief of time, but the more you do that, the less time you have to achieve your goals. If you want to change something, then you need to take responsibility for that change and make your ideal conditions exist. I read somewhere that “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.” Quite. So, get off your beam end and make it happen.
Everything we do and don’t do is a choice. So, if you are sitting in a room thinking where has it all gone wrong, the answer is generally because you made a choice somewhere that put you in that place. You can choose to change, or you can choose to do nothing. Whatever happens though, it is a choice. Don’t complain. It is your choice. Every day offers new chances to choose, so make a choice and enjoy the ride!
Hmmm… I have reached my daily word target, and I still have some other tips for managing change. More for tomorrow then, if you don’t mind! 🙂
